I'm not actually on an official countdown yet, just have the "one month" mantra in my head.
Sunday...
VERY lazy day today.. Spent my morning laying in bed watching "Scrubs." I did eventually have to venture out to the kitchen to make some food. But don't worry, I promptly made my way back to my bed to continue on with my plans for the day: to lay in bed. Sarah and I were supposed to Skype at 2pm and I was ready and excited to chat with her, however she ran into some technical difficulties so we postponed for a few hours. Hannah, Liz, and I went to a different church service this afternoon at 4. I like doing things that I know I'd be doing at home. But the real surreal thought comes when I'm doing the same action at the same time as I'd be doing it at home. For example, the service was at 4:15 which would be 11:15AM at home. Meaning I would've been at church during both times but also, I was sharing at moment with my friends at church at home. The service was a different experience. I enjoyed the youthful atmosphere and trying out different churches but I find I don't know any of the songs and I begin to miss Anne's sermons all making me miss my BUC family. It was nice to be out a little earlier (for the past few weeks we've been going to a 6 o'clock service) and still have a little time to wind up the day.
Sarah was unable to Skype this evening so we told each other we'd definitely try for next weekend. It'd be really nice to chat with her (damn time change!) but we'e just having difficulties. I miss my best friend! I chatted with my family briefly tonight. Mum was making chilli and ran out of child powder! So she left me to talk with my talkative father... The conversation ended a few minutes later. haha I had an early night as I'm feeling run down (after such a tiring morning!.. not!) and tired. So bedtime by 9 for this girl!
Monday...
After being up to pee probably about 3 times last night (seriously.. what is up with that?!!?) I was ready to be awake when my alarm went off. Had a good morning in a year 2 class. Funny the different just a year can make between year 2 and 3! I very much enjoyed the morning and the staff in the classroom was amazingly supportive! We had a little bit of "Canada talk" and I read them "One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish." The kids loved it! In the afternoon, I was jumping around covering 45 minute blocks for teachers who had their appraisals. So I spent just after lunch in the same class as the morning. If someone offered me a year 2 class tomorrow, I'd probably jump at it! I love that age! I then moved to a year 1 class (they were a little crazy... and the teacher had forgotten about her appraisal so was caught off caught), and finished off the day in reception, where I literally did nothing but watch the kids finish their video and help them get ready for hometime. I finished my morning marking and was home by 3:40pm. CAN YOU BELIEVE IT?! I sure can't!! The TAs were also super supportive. During out "Canada Talk" one of them was jumping in with lots of questions and later she told me she could listen to me talk for hours as she loved my "accent" haha
I facetimed Anne but no answer.. But then to my surprise, she called back! We had a GREAT 3 hour chat while she cleaned and did laundry... (mostly, I sat on my bed.) It was so good to catch up with her and just chat like we used to-- with such ease. I sure do miss my BBF and our antics. Looking forward to going home and seeing her... Ice Cream date at 10pm the night I get in, Anne? haha Watched a few episodes of Brooklyn Nine-Nine with the girls and then returned to my bed to finish off the night with jimjams and some postcard writing. Not a bad day at all..
Oh yeah, should also mention that we seem to not have any hot water...? This could be an issue...
Tuesday...
Never fear, the hot water heater issue sorted itself out (after we pushed a few buttons on it last night. Today I was in the other year 3 class and we had a great morning! One of the usual disruptive kids who is always kicking at desks and chairs absolutely soared through the math (you could tell he loved it!) and he did really well in English, too!! I really felt like I connected with him.. I would've loved to have been able to work one-on-one with him all day!! In the afternoon, I was jumping around again covering for the teacher appraisals. I was in 2 year 1 classes. The first, I had to start off the science lesson. Luckily I was able to really draw out the input and just as I was thinking I'd have to start on the "investigation aspect" (which I had absolutely no idea about!!) the teacher came back. In the second class, I did guided reading, and then we played outside for a bit. By the end of the day, I got sent to a year 6 class. But again, I didn't do much. So I went back to the morning class after school was done and finished my marking. Alex texted me at shortly after 3. She was home! Somehow this girl manages to get all these half day jobs! I'm jealous! haha I really should be checking out the music room and beginning to prepare for my Thursday lesson but by the end of the day, I'm ready to be home!
Once I was home, I watched a bit of Rick Mercer on youtube. Feeling the Canadian vibe tonight! Alex and Liz stopped for a game of pool and food so they brought me some home! How wonderful. Watch an episode of "Friday Night Lights" with Alex and chatted with my Auntie. As usual, I didn't get up to much.
Wednesday...
Another prep Wednesday! I was up in the music room this morning taking stock of what was up there and what I would use in my lesson this week. I found the usual: shakers, xylophones, cymbals, and castanets. I could've hidden out up there for much longer but decided it was time to come back down! The deputy head came and fund me and asked if I could cover in a year 1 class just until the supply arrived. I really didn't do anything. Didn't even get to the register. Just walked around and pretended I knew what I was doing... I think I'm getting good at that! I basically do it every day. I was in doing prep in the morning as usual. We got right to work on the planning this week. Though really, I don't have much to input as the teachers already know what's coming next, it's more just going over the specific lessons for the week. This afternoon, I was in a reception class (so the really young ones). I enjoyed it (just had free time after reading a book.) but I find those younger years are so based on routine and it's especially hard jumping into their classroom. But the nice thing about that is there's no marking for my afternoon! I returned back to the year 3 class and helped Helen do the marking from today as well as go over Thursday and Friday. Tonight, I had a first meeting with a new guy. We went to dinner at a place super close to my house (not even a 5 minute walk!-- he chose it, not me!). As usual, the girls also came along and sat across the room. During dinner, he and I made up stories about the various people in the room. He decided that the girls were out to console a friend (Alex) because she'd been broken up with and her heart was broken. What a story! He also heard their accents and decided they were American. haha
